The correct invoice requirements?
A correct invoice is a must and really not difficult. At the end of the year it is good to once again pay attention to the invoice requirements.
Consequences of an incorrect invoice
It has turned out that things still go wrong when setting up a tax-correct invoice. That is annoying for both your customer and you. As a VAT entrepreneur, you run the risk of a fine if you send an invoice that does not meet the legal requirements. In that case, your customer may not deduct the VAT as a reclaim. However, for the invoice you have issued, you simply have to pay the VAT to the tax authorities. On the other hand, if you yourself receive an incorrect invoice from your supplier, you yourself miss out on the deduction of VAT.
Issuing invoice
An invoice must be issued before the 15th of the month following the month in which the goods or services were delivered. For example, if a product is delivered on November 10, the invoice must be sent before December 15.
Invoice Requirements
Your invoices must contain the following information:
- your full name and that of your customer
- your full address and that of your customer
- your VAT identification number
- your Chamber of Commerce number
- the date on which the invoice was issued
- an invoice number
- what kind of goods or services you have delivered and how many resp. size
- the date on which the goods or services were delivered
- the compensation, exclusive of VAT
- the VAT rate that applies to the goods or service supplied
- the VAT amount
- the total amount
In the case of intra-Community supplies or if a reverse charge mechanism applies, you must also state the customer’s VAT identification number.
If you supply goods and / or services for an amount of € 100 (incl. VAT) or less, then you need to state less information. However, not in cross-border situations.
